A group of 5 children sit in a circle and 4 of them hold 2 of the same type of fruit while the fifth child holds only one. They also wear a matching t shirt to the fruit they are holding. The fruit is then randomly distributed to the children. Their goal is to get the correct fruit to each child. They may only pass a fruit to their friend sitting next to them if he/she has a free hand. The children will see that sometimes they will need to give up their fruit in order to reach their goal. They will also learn that a group is much more interesting if there are different types of people in it.
Playing this game with just one type of fruit will not work.
This game helps children identify with children who are challenged with loss of sight. A sighted player is blindfolded and set on a minefield with bombs that are to be avoided. His/her sighted friends help him/her get from start to finish by instructing him which steps to take and when so that he/she avoids the bombs. This game is featured as part of this link; other activities can be learned from this link too.
This can be played with plastic cups too. Players make a path with plastic cups and then guide their blinded friend through the maze. Children learn to rely on each other and identify with others who have challenges.
Try to get hold of as many instruments as possible. It may be an idea to give every few children the same instrument. The group members decide on a tune or rhythm that they will play and proceed to play it. Afterwards the leader will ask for players with the same instrument to play the same tune. Children will notice how much richer the tune is with more instruments being played. Leaders can then discuss how this lesson plays out in group dynamics in general.
